From Lockergnome, this might be of interest to those who have accidentally installed the latest outlook service pack2

A few weeks ago, I upgraded Windows on Oogie Boogie (the big, bad, beige beast who now belongs to Gretchen). As usual, I had to add all of my favorite shell extensions and shareware apps ASAP. Microsoft Office 2000 was the last in line; my copy was the release version, so I had to head to the Web to get SP1 (the first service pack). I was careful not to get SP2, as it comes with the dreaded Outlook E-mail Security update that halts EVERY type of questionable attachment. Oops. I inadvertently installed it (and there's no way to uninstall it). Time to do a little hacking! If this has happened to you, here's what you need to do. Find OUTLLIB.DLL and open it in any hexadecimal editor (I prefer UltraEdit). It's nothing but code, baby. Be sure to make a backup copy first! Now, do a Find for the first "URL" string. You should see it surrounded by other familiar file extensions, like ZIP, VBS, and SHS. Guess what you're going to do? That's right! Change "URL" to "LOL" - "ZIP" to "OMG" - "EXE" to "CJP" (or some other tri-lettered farcical aquatic ceremony). Save your changes and full access to those files in Outlook 2000 should now be restored.

Talking about Pants websites (yeah I know mines not fantastic!) but I've been online looking for a new company car. All the car websites are Flash enabled only - so useless if you are on a slow connection (like most of the UK). Some of them have a welcome page with a graphic, you click on it and then it opens a new browser window "formatted for your screen" - like "HELLO - what was wrong with the original window?". Then when you request information the forms is not filled in the order you would expect - ie all the address at once....no. You have to fill in the first line of the address, then pressing tab it will ask you what your phone number(s) are. Like WHO is going to give out their home, work AND mobile number? THEN you can only get one brochure at a time. Whats the point in that? Most of the time you want more than one (or at least one more than the limit you specify.) So what do you do? Press the back button and resubmit - so they have to send TWO envelopes in the post rather than one....and they are saving money where????

Another daft point was that when choosing a car brochure, you just had a list of models to pick from - no small thumbnail of the car so you could tell that the model car you chose was the right kind you were looking for!

As you can see I was not impressed by ANY of the car sites. Most were slow to look at, although nice photo's!

Shame I can't have an MG sports car :-(

Technical support from Mcaffee???? Don't make me laugh! I've tried a couple of times to get support, even register the product (which involved about three international faxes to holland of the registration card and two weeks wait). When I contacted them by email I got an excuse saying they had problems with their email server. Well their email administrator should get the sack as a friend of mine also sent them an email recently (mine was a year ago) and the reply he got back, 26 days later, was this:-

Thank you for contacting McAfee Support.
Due to changes in the e-mail procedures, some e-mails have been misrouted, and we apologise for the delay.
We would appreciate if you return to
www.mcafeehelp.com and re-submit your question by chat, and we will be happy to help you with your issues.
Thank you for visiting McAfee Support Center

Wow - found some cool new applets. The first two are a rippling water effect screen saver and a moving clouds screen saver. Both these can be found at http://www.controlzed.com/areality/

Well Google crawled my site again last night but didn't pick up the word jinklouset yet - but then neither have the other search engines! Just how long do they need?

Hopefully i'm going to get a Black and Decker Quattro as an early christmas present, especially as Homebase are also throwing in a free workmate (although not if you buy it online (at the same price) which stinks!)

Grrrr - Freeserve had a weird outage on their email this morning - all pop3 requests were coming back as unknown server! I guess thats what happens when you proxy everything through the isp!

Still it's working now! knockin on wood

hmmmmmm - jinklouset is now picked up by google, but NOT by my page! it's been picked up by the page where I got the idea from which is really annoying. I'll have to think of something else to post :-)

Well the computer has moved upstairs to the office whilst living room gets redecorated - hence the change in background to the webcam

Freeserve have either stopped their smtp proxy or its broken as my email system failed on Friday as they were nolonger redirecting smtp to their own site. Quick change to the config and everything started working again :-)
